About Me
Dr Kurt Armstrong is a Highly Specialist Clinical Psychologist who brings over eight years of experience working across the lifespan in a range of clinical settings and specialties, with a particular focus on children, young people and neurodivergent populations.
He currently works as a Highly Specialist Clinical Psychologist within Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services (CAMHS) at Pennine Care NHS Foundation Trust. In this role, he undertakes comprehensive psychological assessments, provides evidence–based therapeutic interventions and holds responsibility for case management of young people presenting with complex mental health difficulties. His position includes providing clinical leadership across Core CAMHS, Dialectical Behavioural Therapy (DBT) and neurodevelopmental assessment pathways.
Alongside his NHS work, Kurt undertakes independent practice, offering specialist psychological assessments and medico–legal reporting across Personal Injury, Clinical Negligence, Criminal and Employment Law contexts. His independent work extends to cognitive and neurodevelopmental assessments, where he is known for producing clear, structured and clinically robust reports.
Kurt achieved a First–Class Honours degree in Psychology from the University of Sheffield, before progressing through roles as a Research Assistant within the Sheffield Autism Research Lab and as an Assistant Psychologist in both independent and NHS services. He completed his Clinical Psychology training with the University of Manchester, where he developed advanced competencies across a wide range of therapeutic models and client presentations.
His core clinical skills include psychological and neuropsychological assessment, including the use of standardised tools such as the Wechsler Intelligence Scale for Children (WISC–V) and the Autism Diagnostic Observation Schedule (ADOS–2). He is highly skilled in psychological formulation, integrating evidence–based theory to develop meaningful, individualised understandings of a person’s difficulties.
Kurt is trained in a range of therapeutic approaches, including Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Systemic Therapy and Dialectical Behavioural Therapy (DBT). He is an accredited Interpersonal Psychotherapy for Adolescents (IPT–A) therapist and is completing supervisor training in this modality. His clinical work is grounded in trauma–responsive and neuro-affirmative principles. In addition to direct clinical work, he provides consultation, supervision, teaching and training, and is actively involved in governance, quality assurance, audit and research activities
