About Me
Dr Hasan Waheed is a Clinical Psychologist who has experience working with children, young people, and families in the NHS and third sector for almost ten years.
After he qualified as a Clinical Psychologist, Hasan worked for East Lancashire Children and Adolescent Services (ELCAS). He is now working as a Clinical Psychologist and the Training Lead for Just Psychology CIC. He specialises in working with children and families from culturally diverse backgrounds by focusing on matters such as: Faith and spirituality from an Islamic perspective; Impact of migration on family functioning including separation and reunification; Navigating acculturation distress in the context of child-parent attachment relationships; Impact of intergenerational trauma; and Racism.
Hasan is passionate about helping young people navigate life’s challenges, their social and cultural context, and in turn achieve their full potential. He understands that this means working with systems around the child, and not in isolation. His approach is rooted in evidence-based practices but tailored to the individual’s needs, strengths, skills, and resources. He draws upon principles from Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Solution Focused Therapy (SFT) and Narrative Therapy. He has continued his professional development by completing courses in Narrative Exposure Therapy (NET Institute) and Islamic Psychology (International Association of Islamic Psychology) in order to provide holistic and culturally appropriate assessments and interventions. He is trained in administering The Autism Diagnostic Observation Schedule-II (ADOS-II) and is undergoing Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing Therapy (EMDR) training.
He lectures both at university level and for mental health and therapy practitioners. He is a presenter at national conferences and has published articles in the field. He has served seven months on the Equality, Diversity and Inclusion Board for the British Psychological Society.
Hasan is a registered practitioner psychologist with the Health and Care Professions Council (PYL039971) and a member of the British Psychological Society.
