About Me

Bhav has worked in the NHS since 2012, and as a qualified Clinical Psychologist since 2011. Since qualifying, Bhav has worked with Children and Young People with medical conditions and in a parenting assessment service. She has an interest in understanding and supporting young people and their families with various physical health conditions and the impact that these can have on their everyday life and wider familial and social situations.

Bhav has particular expertise in working with children and young people with physical health conditions such as type 1 diabetes, epilepsy, cancer, cystic fibrosis and several other health conditions. As part of her current NHS role, she has worked within the child development centre from 2015-2019 which had involved working within the neurodevelopmental assessment service for under 5’s. Over the years Bhav has received training in the administration of a variety of standardised observational and neuropsychological assessments. This includes specific training within clinical interviewing specific to Autism Spectrum Disorder (i.e. DISCO – Diagnostic Interview for Social and Communication Disorders, 3di Developmental, Dimensional and Diagnostic Interview) and observation skills (i.e. ADOS-2 Autism Diagnostic Observation Schedule, second edition).

Bhav has training in a wide range of therapeutic approaches including: Narrative therapy, EMDR, G-TEP (EMDR), DNA-V Thriving Adolescent training (Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) adapted for young people) Cognitive Behavioural Therapy; Compassionate Mind, and Family Therapy; and uses these in an integrative way as needed.

Bhav achieved a First-Class Honours degree in Psychology from the University of Birmingham and graduated in 2005. She then worked as an assistant psychologist within a female prison and at the Cancer service in the Queen Elizabeth Hospital Birmingham, where her passion of working in health psychology began. Following a year as a trainee counselling psychologist, Bhav obtained a place to undertake doctorate training in Clinical Psychology at the University of Plymouth in 2008. During this training Bhav gained experience in working in a health and pain psychology service, adult mental health, older adults, and within a child and adolescent mental health service (CAMHS). Bhav is currently employed by Torbay and South Devon NHS Foundation Trust as a paediatric clinical psychologist and is passionate about working with young people who have various physical health conditions and their families.
